A wardrobe box is a tall, double-walled cardboard box designed for transporting clothes on hangers. It comes with a sturdy 18″ hanging rail across the top, allowing garments such as suits, dresses, coats and shirts to stay crease-free during house moves or whilst in storage. 

Wardrobe boxes are especially useful for home removals, retail stock transport, and long-term storage, as they protect clothing from dust, dirt, and damage while keeping everything neatly organised.

Using a wardrobe box is simple! Just follow our instructions below:

1. Assemble the box: fold into shape and tape the bottom flaps securely.
2. Insert the rail: slot the metal or cardboard hanging rail across the top edges.
3. Hang your clothes: move garments directly from your wardrobe on their hangers.
4. Fill efficiently: hang items close together to maximise space.
5. Seal the box: fold the top flaps closed and tape for added protection.
6. Store: move the now filled wardrobe box into short-term or long-term storage.

Tip: wardrobe boxes can be reused multiple times and are also handy for seasonal storage of coats, dresses, or other bulky items.

We currently offer one size of wardrobe box: 508mm (length) x 457mm (width) x 1220mm (height).

This size gives plenty of room for long coats, dresses, and suits.

On average, a standard wardrobe box can hold 20-30 garments on hangers. Bulky coats and suits take up more space, while lighter items like shirts or dresses allow for more room. For larger home removals, it’s better to spread clothes across multiple wardrobe boxes to avoid overloading and to keep the box easier to move and handle.

Yes! Like all cardboard packaging, wardrobe boxes are 100% recyclable and biodegradable once they’re no longer usable or if you simply wish to dispose of them. 

Before disposal, remove the plastic hanging rail and place the cardboard into your normal recycling waste stream.

Wardrobe boxes are primarily designed for domestic moves and storage, not long-distance courier shipping. While they protect garments well, their tall size makes them bulky and harder to handle in courier networks. For shipping clothes, we recommend smaller reinforced cartons, like our Single Wall Box 690 x 470 x 490mm, or our range of mailing bags.

Yes. While the hanging rail holds the box rigid, the top and bottom flaps need sealing with packing tape to keep clothes secure.

We recommend shopping our range of brown and clear packaging tape. Alternatively, we offer an eco-friendly paper tape.
